No non-compliances found during HIQA inspection in Bundoran

There were no non-compliances found in a HIQA inspection at a residential centre for people with intellectual disabilities in Bundoran.

There were eight residents in place when the inspection took place at Inbhear na Mara in July.

The report found residents received a good quality service, and were supported to meet their health, social and personal care needs. The staff had the appropriate skill-mix and training to support the residents.

Inbhear Na Mara – OSV-0002496 welcomes publication of HIQA compliance report

The HSE has welcomed the publication of a HIQA inspection report at Inbhear Na Mara. Inbhear Na Mara is a designated centre in Donegal managed by the HSE providing a full time residential service for up to ten adults with an intellectual disability. HIQA undertook an unannounced inspection in Inbhear na Mara on the 03 July 2025. The report was published on the HIQA website today, (09 October 2025).

Inbhear na Mara centre is a single story building located on the close proximity of a town. Residents have their own bedrooms and access to communal spaces such as the kitchen and living room. Residents are supported by a staff team of nurses and social care staff who are present in the centre during the day and at night.

The HIQA inspector found that residents in this centre received good quality care. They were supported to meet their health, social and personal care needs. The staff had the appropriate skill-mix and training to support the residents.

The inspector observed the house was clean, well maintained and suitable to meet the needs and numbers of residents. Residents had individually decorated their spacious bedrooms that had suitable arrangements for the storage of their personal property. Staff were observed to be respectful and knowledgeable in supporting residents with their non-verbal communications. Overall, the service was found to provide safe, person-centred care to residents.

During the inspection, eleven regulations were inspected, seven of which were fully compliant, and four were deemed to be substantially compliant relating to staffing, governance and management, communication and individual assessment.

In relation to staffing, interviews have taken place to replace vacant staff nurse posts and documentation has been submitted for approval to fill vacant health care assistant positions. Under governance and management the following actions were taken; a system has been developed for the review and monitoring of assessments of needs for all residents within the designated centre. With regard to communication residents communication profiles and support plans have been reviewed. Information sessions have also been undertaken with staff in relation to pictorial communication for residents.

The HSE remains committed to ensuring high-quality services are delivered and maintained at Inbhear na Mara designated centre.
