PSNI says it will learn from failings in 2016 Cresswell investigation

A probe’s found a PSNI investigation into an alleged act of indecent exposure by the man who later was charged with the murder of showjumper Katie Simpson was “inadequate” and failed the victim.

A woman made the report about Jonathan Creswell to police in 2016….he died in 2024 while on trial for Katie’s murder. She died in Altnagelvin Hospital days after she was attacked at a house in Lettershandowney outside Derry City.

Police have admitted the actions of the officers involved in the earlier investigation didn’t meet the expectations of the PSNI or the victim.

They say the PSNI is committed to learning from cases where investigative processes have fallen short.
