Health Minister Jennifer Carroll MacNeill says that she still has confidence in the management of HSE regions despite overspending.
At the end of August the HSE had a cash deficit of €696 million.
Minister MacNeill was speaking after four HSE regions lost their day-to-day spending powers following budget overruns.
One of those regions is HSE West and North West.
She says spending must now be brought under control and budgets need to be reined in for the year.
