A Donegal councillor is calling for an independent review of the Child and Adult Mental Health service in Donegal after it emerged that of 578 referrals in the county in the first eight months of the year, 261 had been rejected. That was most acute in the North Donegal/Letterkenny area, with 121 of 225 referrals rejected.
Cllr Declan Meehan, who received the figures at a meeting of the Regional Health Forum, described the number as staggering.
He believes an audit is necessary to ensure decisions are not based on the availability of resources rather than the patient’s clinical need………..
