The newly installed Bishop of Derry says he doesn’t believe an amalgamation of the Derry and Raphoe dioceses is inevitable, but he does believe they will have to cooperate more closely, and where necessary, share resources.
Speaking on today’s Greg Hughes Show, Bishop Michael Router acknowledged that the prospect of a formal amalgamation is still very much a possibility, with officials in the Vatican monitoring the situation closely.
However, Bishop Router believes the recent installation of Bishop Niall Coll in Raphoe and himself in Derry shows that the two diocese model remains firmly in place, and the hope will be that they can both begin to grow again………
