
A decision by a Belfast court to allow a major upgrade to the A5 road has been welcomed by campaigners.
The move by the Court of Appeal overturned an earlier High Court decision in 2025 to block the £1.7bn project over concerns it did not comply with climate legislation.
Since 2006 more than 50 people have lost their lives on the A5, leading it to be labelled one of Ireland’s deadliest roads.
