Two CCTV schemes approved for Donegal

An extension to Letterkenny’s CCTV scheme and the implementation of a scheme in the Twin Town’s has been approved by An Garda Síochána.

Six new cameras are set to be implemented in both areas following an application from Donegal County Council in conjunction with Letterkenny Chamber and the Ballybofey and
Stranorlar Integrated Communities Committee (BASICC) group in 2023.

The proposed extension to the Letterkenny scheme will provide six additional cameras at locations including the Hospital roundabout, Polestar roundabout, Lower Main street and Paddy Harte Road. These proposed locations were requested by the Gardaí locally.

The proposed Ballybofey-Stranorlar scheme includes six new cameras at Main Street Ballybofey, Glenfin Street, Navenney Street and Chestnut Road and in Stranorlar at Chapel Street and Mc Clay’s corner.

Donegal County Council now await a letter of offer to determine the associated co-funding requirement based on current costs.

Chair of the Donegal Local Community Safety Partnership, Cllr Gerry McMonagle says the schemes should enhance safety:
