The Health Minister says the public sector work-to-rule had an impact on the hospital overcrowding statistics reported this week.
INMO figures show 824 admitted patients were waiting for beds across the country on Wednesday, 102 of them in the North West, with 51 each in Letterkenny and Sligo.
It comes as public sector staff, including those working in hospitals, engage in industrial action, amid ongoing pay talks.
Minister Jennifer Carroll MacNeill is stressing however that the work to rule was not the only contributing factor……………….
Meanwhile, unions are warning of more strike action , if no public sector pay agreement is reached.
Talks are continuing at the Workplace Relations Commission today between unions and management in a bid to strike a pay deal.
The discussions are said to be at a crucial point.
ICTU’s Public Services Committee will meet on Monday to consider a report on pay talks.
However, if no draft agreement is available they will consider a proposal to stage a nationwide strike on Wednesday the 11th of November.
