Derry City’s relegation worries continued on Saturday night losing 2-0 to Drogheda United at the Brandywell.
Against the run of play Drogheda took the lead just before half time, Adam Whelan broke down the right, his cross was met by Sean Thornton who headed passed Derry keeper Gerard Doherty.
Derry pushed hard for an equaliser at the start of the second half but that earlier pressure filtered out.
The Drog’s second goal came on 76 minutes, Whelan turned provider again crossing a dangerous ball in front of the Derry goal which ended at the feet of Jason Marks to put the ball into the net.
Drogheda’s win moves them one point above Derry as the Candystrips drop to 10th in the standings.
In the other games involving relegation threatened teams, Sligo drew 2-2 away to leaders Dundalk, Limerick beat St. Pats 3-1 and Galway overcame Longford 4-2.
Six points now seperate the bottom six sides, Longford 28 Drogheda 26, Galway 26, Derry 25 Sligo 23 Limerick 22.
