Martin Freeman and Mackenzie Crook will not be joining Ricky Gervais in his David Brent movie.
The ‘Hobbit’ actor has confirmed he and the ‘Pirates of the Caribbean’ star will not be reprising their roles as prankster Tim and nerdy Gareth from ‘The Office’ in the upcoming film ‘Life on the Road’.
He said: “I wish it luck. I think Ricky is brilliant as David Brent, but they won’t be bringing us back.”
The 44-year-old star added that Ricky – who played annoying boss David in ‘The Office’ from 2001 to 2003 – never actually approached him to be in the movie.
He told The Sun newspaper: “I don’t know about it, and I think that’s for a good reason, because I’ve not been asked.
“And I think it’s right that I’ve not been asked. I’m not a big fan of reunions. I don’t think they’re ever as good as the first one.”
In addition to his decision to not include any of the original cast, Gervais has also been forced to carry on with the project without his ‘The Office’ co-creator Stephen Merchant.
A source said: “Ricky has every right to do a David Brent movie on his own but fans will understandably be gutted to have it confirmed that Stephen is not involved.
“Together they created one of the all-time classic TV shows with ‘The Office’, and all their projects as a team have been so well received.”
Ricky has previously promised that ‘Life on the Road’ – which is set for release in August 2016 – will “peel back the layers of this extraordinary, ordinary man”.
