Four Masters Cycling Club in conjunction with our main club sponsor, O’ Malley Scanlon Insurance Brokers are running a 46 mile charity cycle on Sunday 22nd November.
All proceeds from this event will go to the Good and New Cancer Bus, which transports cancer patients free of charge from Donegal to Galway for cancer treatment and has been running for nearly 4 years now.
The bus is sustained through donations from local people and needs €1000 a week to run, no funding is provided from official bodies so your support is very much needed. Without local donations the service would have to cease within a few weeks.
We all have a friend or family member who has been affected by cancer. Please support this event to raise funds for this service which gets no state funding.
Minimum donation is €10 for CI members and €12 for non CI members.
Registration will open from 8.30am with the event starting at 9.30am. As with all club events helmets are compulsory.
For those of you who done this cycle a few years back we will be cycling in the opposite direction this year. Leaving Aura Leisure Centre, Letterkenny, who have donated the use of their premises free of charge for this charity event, the cycle will head towards Churchill, through Glendowan, then tackling the first major hill up to the Bridal Path entrance at Glenveagh National Park.
Then it’s downhill past the scenic Lough Barra towards Doochary taking care to avoid any sheep. Leaving Doochary the cyclists will encounter some 10 % slopes and test their low gearing before arriving at Fintown. Then it’s back to Meenaroy via the easy side and finishing at Aura in Letterkenny, where refreshments and warm drinks will be awaiting the cyclists.
The event picture shows our charity run on this course two years ago for Bloodbike Northwest. Let’s hope we have the same kind of a day as it was amazing cycling through this part of the country with snow-capped mountains
Due to the nature of the course we will not be operating a controlled pace, but this is not a race. It’s a fun charity cycle.
This is a Cycling Ireland Approved Event and more details can bee found at Four Masters Cycling Club on Facebook.
