The countdown is on to the 40th anniversary of the Donegal Sports Star Awards which take place later this month in Letterkenny.
On Monday night, at a function in the Mount Errigal Hotel, in Letterkenny, it was announced that Irish Olympian Ronnie Delany, who captured the gold medal in the 1,500m at the 1956 Melbourne Olympics will be the special guests.
Several overall and previous category winners were in attendance, and reflected on the importance of the sports star awards and what they mean to those concerned.
During the first two years there was no overall winner. So it was in 1978 that Lifford AC hurdler Liam Doherty became the first Donegal Sports Star of the Year.
