Derry City scored three without reply on Friday night at the Brandywell, defeating Shamrock Rovers and moving clear at the top of the Premier Division table.
Ronan Curtis opened the scoring in the second minute when he poked the ball home from close range after poor defending by Rovers.
Harry Monaghan headed in on 22 minutes when he met a cross from the left, six yards out.
Rory Patterson had the ball in the net on 35 minutes but was ruled offside.
He suffered the same fate on 79 minutes but was a scorer in the 58th minute when he scored a penalty after David Webster had fouled him as he tried to take a shot at goal.
A good night’s work by the team gave them the deserved three points.
Kenny Shiels side are now three points clear of Dundalk and Galway Utd but Dundalk can join Derry at the summitt again with victory on Saturday at Longford.
