The cost of reclaiming a scrambler seized by Gardaí is set to double from August 14th.
Under new regulations, owners of most scramblers will face a €250 charge for detention, removal and the first day of storage, up from the current €125 fee.
A further €70 per day will apply for any additional storage.
The regulations have been signed by Minister of State Seán Canney, who says the increased charges better reflect the cost of enforcement and will act as a stronger deterrent against the illegal and dangerous use of scramblers.
