McGuigan’s medal in US as Boyle hits European Qualifying mark

Janine Boyle of Finn Valley AC became the third athlete from the club to attain an European qualifying standard for the Youth Championships in Tbilisi during July .
Competing over 200m in Waterford on Saturday she returned a time of 24.78 inside the required mark.
She also scored a season best of 11.94 in the 100m which just fell short of the required 11.90.
In recent weeks Arlene Crossan also coached by Shauna Carlin got a qualifying mark in the 400m hurdlers in France and Aaron Mc Glynn returned a time of 1.51. 95 over 800 in Belfast last weekend which was well inside the required standard.
Other Finn Valley athletes chasing the standard are James Kelly in the shot and Sommer Lecky in the high jump.
Brendan O Donnell of Lifford/Strabane will be in Georgia this summer as he has the standard in the hammer competition.
Meanwhile in America over the weekend, Fellan and Dempsey Mc Guigan continue to impact with their colleges as both won bronze medals.
Fellan finished third in the shot with Texas in the BIG X 11 Championships while Dempsey, competing in Alabama in SEC T/F got out to 68.55m tp also take a medal.
