A teacher with the Donegal Education and Training Board has been elected, by a significant majority, as the next President of the Teachers’ Union of Ireland.
Following a ballot of the Union’s 15,000 members, Joanne Irwin received 66% of the vote and will take up Office on July 1st.
Joanne, who is based at the Finn Valley Centre for Education is the first member from the Donegal Branch to be elected president.
She was announced as the winner last night after a postal ballot of the entire membership.
Her election comes as the TUI Executive endorses a proposed new deal with the Department of Education.
Ms Irwin believes that deal can help ease the tension that exists between teachers and government…….
