A special meeting of Donegal County Council has heard that people in Donegal will see a huge increase in bin costs with the new pay by weight scheme despite the Government suggesting otherwise.
The new system is to come into effect on July 1st and waste collectors have been preparing for the new arrangements for some time, with bins being chipped and specialist weight measuring equipment being installed on bin lorries.
Seamus O’Domhnaill says it’ll lead to an increase in illegal dumping, burning rubbish and putting small refuse companies at risk.
