Drinks and Hospitality sector supports 7,575 jobs in Donegal – Survey

More than 204,000 people rely on the drinks and hospitality sector for direct employment.The booklet highlights the wage and jobs contribution of the industry in each constituency in Ireland, showcasing the regional spread of the industry’s economic contribution. In Cork, for example, the industry supports 18,883 jobs and a wages contribution of €416m. In Galway it supports 11,333 jobs and a wages contribution of €237million. Other counties include Waterford and Wexford with 5,260 and 8,159 jobs supported respectfully and wages of €110m and €172m.The data is based on research by DCU Economist Tony Foley and was launched at an employment roundtable discussion in HEINKEN Ireland in Cork today which explored how growth in the drinks and hospitality industry could be fostered to support job creation across Ireland. A campaign launched by the drinks and hospitality sector says that more than 7,500 jobs are supported by the sector in Donegal.
The “Support Your Local” campaign has launched an employment trail map, which highlights the wage and jobs contribution of the industry in each constituency in Ireland, on foot of research carried out by economist Tony Foley.
The research, supported by Heineken, found the drinks and hospitality industry supports 7,575 jobs in Donegal, with a wages contribution of €157m.
The campaign is now calling for a 15% reduction in alcohol excise as a means supporting that growth and promoting future investment in the sector.
