Around 1,000 Letterkenny people have signed a Labour Party petition supporting the establishment of sub-post offices in the Gortlee and Glencar areas of the town.
The petition is being organised by Donegal North East Candidate Cllr Jimmy Harte, who says it is completely unacceptable that people are being forced to queue for long periods outside the Main Street post office in the town.
He says the service must be improved, and if an expanded office with more staff is not possible, then An Post must establish sub-post offices in outlying areas.
Cllr Harte says he will present the petition to An Post next week, with a warning that they must address the needs of the community as a matter of urgency…………….
