The Taoiseach has confirmed that the government’s commitment to co-funding the upgrade of the A5 between Derry and Aughnacloy is being deferred.
The A5 is one of a list of capital projects that the government says cannot proceed over the next five years, and will be considered again by 2016.
Earlier in the Dail, Tanaiste Eamon Gilmore promised a debate on the decision next week:
At the launch of the capital programme review, Taoiseah Enda Kenny said the government cannot spend money it doesn’t have.
Apart from the A5, the other projects to be deferred include Metro North, the Navan Rail Line and the next phase of the Western Rail Corridor.
He says the projects will be revisited when money becomes available:
