A Donegal Deputy has described the Irish fishing sector as on its knees.
The Government is being urged to recognise the uniqueness of the sector and its importance to the economy.
The current crisis is said to have exposed the plight of local fishermen further with delays in access to the pandemic unemployment payments and the inability to access restart grants because they are self-employed.
Speaking in the Dail, Deputy Padraig Mac Lochlainn says with fishermen expected to be hit with the imminent impact of Brexit, a specific task force needs to be set up as a matter of urgency to ensure supports are available to them:
