A Lifford based GP has accussed the HSE of pursuing an agenda to close Lifford Hospital within the next six months.
According to an internal HSE document which was recent;y leaked, Lifford is one of a number of community hospitals and facilities in Donegal which are currently under review, and the only one identified for closure.
Speaking on today’s Shaun Doherty Show, Dr Martin Coyne said Lifford could be maintained and expanded at minimal cost, but the HSE seems dead set on closing it to save a relatively small amount of money……….
Dr Coyne also says Lifford provides a very important service, particularly in terms of respite,and recuperation.
He says Lifford Hospital is more than a nursing home, and takes a lot of pressure off Letterkenny General……….
