The former Burtonport Fishermen’s Co-Operative Building has been demolished.
It’s one of a number of buildings set to be removed to pave the way for extra car parking facilities and a ferry terminal.
The co-operative building was once a hive of activity, serving the salmon industry in the area.
The building also served as an auction hall, cinema, dance hall, a festival office and more recently a storage facility.
According to Donegal County Councils Burtonport Redevelopment Plan, the demolition of the existing buildings is to facilitate the realignment of the road, the provision of additional parking spaces and to improve traffic flow on the pier.
The plan claims that the harbour in its current state is restricted for space and becomes very congested and leads to hazardous conditions for all users, particularly fishermen and boat users.
The plan also aims to regenerate a maritime gateway to Arranmore.
