Assembly adjourns without electing a speaker

The Northern Ireland Assembly’s failed to elect a new speaker.

The DUP – now the second largest party in Stormont behind Sinn Fein – has refused to back either nomination for the role, until some post-Brexit issues are resolved.

The session’s been suspended as business can’t happen without a speaker.
