Defective block homeowners are being punished for doing exactly what the Government asked.
That’s according to Councillor Joy Beard, who has written to the Housing Minister to express her frustration that a number of homeowners have been excluded from availing of increased grant amounts included in the Enhanced Defective Block Scheme, which the Government promised would be applied retrospectively.
She claims one homeowner took out a loan to the value of €50,000 to remediate their property and incurred over €24,000 in rental costs. They were hoping to recoup some of those costs retrospectively.
Councillor Beard is appealing to Minister James Browne to urgently review the decision to impose a cut-off date for early movers:
