Bird flu confirmed in Co Monaghan

A third bird flu outbreak has been recorded in a turkey flock over the last two weeks.

The virus was spotted in the birds in Clontibret, Monaghan after previous outbreaks in Carlow and Meath.

Restriction zones have been established around the affected holding, with a 3 kilometre protection zone and 10 kilometre surveillance zone in place.

A national housing order has now been enacted by the Department of Agriculture in a bid to stop the spread of the disease.
