€64,250 has been awarded to the Animals in Need charity in Donegal.
It’s part of a national pot of €6.4 million for animal welfare charities across the state.
The Donegal organisation is one of 94 across Ireland, and is the only one in the county in receipt of the funding.
The charity has recently used its social media platforms to appeal to families to hold off on adopting a pet for Christmas and to wait until the New Year, when the household has returned to normality.
