Historic underfunding linked to decline in Irish-Language households

Despite warnings nearly 20 years ago, the number of families raising their children through Irish is declining.

Councillor Micheál Choilm Mac Giolla Easbuig says this is due to a historical lack of funding for Gaeltacht areas.

He believes that if successive governments had heeded continuous calls for support over the years, things would not have reached their current state:
