Gardaí have arrested 170 people for driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs in the past week.
Over 5,300 were caught speeding in that time, by officers deployed for the Christmas road safety operation.
One driver was spotted travelling at 144km/h in an 80km/h zone on the R239 in Fahan, Co. Donegal. Another was detected doing 192 kilometres per hour in a 100 zone in Kilmeaden, County Waterford.
184 people have lost their lives on the roads so far this year.
