Catholic representation in PSNI remains at 30%

More efforts are being demanded to attract underrepresented groups into the Police Service of Northern Ireland.

A committee found the proportion of Catholic officers has stayed at around 30%, after a 50-50 recruitment policy with non-Catholics ended in 2011.

It also wants to see more hires from ethnic minority and working-class backgrounds.

Chief constable Jon Boutcher insists the PSNI is ‘introducing various measures’ to improve representation.
