Donegal Deputy Pearse Doherty has urged the government to scrap the TV licence fee and replace it with a sustainable public broadcasting levy through the exchequer.
In exchanges with Tanaiste and Finance Minister Simon Harris, Deputy Doherty said four years ago, a million people paid for TV licences, while so far this year, less than 300,000 people have done so.
