DCC says only 3% to 4% of its non-national roads can be resurfaced each year

The Cathaoirleach of Donegal County Council says this week’s special meeting to discuss roads will help ensure that the concerns of the people are front and centre when road maintenance and repair is being discussed by officials and engineers.

The meeting, intended to be the first in a series, was told that there are almost 7,000 kilometres of roads in the county, of over 6,300 kilometres are regional and local roads which are the council’s responsibilty under the discretionary funding it receives from the government.

Officials said this means only between 3% and 4% of the network can be resurfaced each year, a figure which members say is nowhere near enough.

Cathaoirleach Cllr Gary Doherty says that makes it all the more important that the members’ input is central to the process……………
