A rally is being held outside the Dáil later – urging the Government not to privatise water services here.
SIPTU – which has organised the protest – say they fear the Government could follow in the footsteps of many European countries and privatise our water services.
There has been strong opposition to the proposals from some elected representatives in Donegal to plans to switch control of water services from local authorities to ‘Irish Water’ – many see this a precursor to privatisation.
The Donegal County Manager has also sought clarity from the government on what the implications of that move are for service provision and staff.
