Ireland now has the fourth highest obesity rate in Europe.
New figures published by the European Commission shows 22 point 1 per cent of adults here were classified as obese last year.
That rate is considerably higher than the EU average of 16 point 3 per cent.
Only Malta, Latvia and Finland had higher rates than Ireland.
