Petrol bombs thrown at Police during disorder in Derry

Petrol bombs have been thrown at police during disorder in Derry.

It’s after a masked group of up to 50 people gathered in Derry’s Waterside last night.

A crowd of young and older people, some described as having weapons, gathered at around 7.30pm last night.

When police arrived, many scattered, but some stayed behind, throwing petrol bombs and dragging bins onto the road, blocking the junction at the Trench Road and Strabane Old Road.

Police believe the trouble was organized, with Superintendent Sinead McIldowney calling it absolutely disgraceful and shameful.

She says no officers were injured, and there will be a heightened police presence in the area.
