An investigation has found Gardaí who pursued the car in which five teenagers were later killed on the M9, acted appropriately prior to the fatal crash.
The Garda ombudsman found the officers, who ended the pursuit when the car entered the motorway against the flow of traffic, acted lawfully.
Five teenagers aged between 15 and 18 died in the crash on the 16th of August, while three sisters and a young boy in the other car were seriously injured.
Fiosrú says gardaí pursued a BMW and received permission from the Garda Control Room to continue the pursuit.
Gardaí subsequently stopped their pursuit, and the control room confirmed it should not continue when the BMW entered the M9 dual carriageway.
Other units attempted to stop the car with a stopping device, however the driver of the BMW made a number of U-turns before the fatal collision with the oncoming car.
