Business Matters, Eps 318: TechTides conference in the northwest – plus office hybrid working changes

On this week’s programme, Chris Ashmore finds out about TechTides, which is both the name of the event being held in the Millennium Forum on Tuesday 27th October and the name of the company behind it.

TechTides was founded by Derry based Alastair Cameron essentially because most of the tech events he wished to attend were in Belfast or Dublin. He was going through cancer treatment at the time and he told himself that if got better he would create a tech conference for the North West.

More than 26 speakers have been lined up for this years event and now he hopes to have TechTide conferences in more regional locations in the years to come.

The event will also see up to 10 tech startups from NI and ROI pitching their business on stage, with one winning start-up bagging a £3k cash prize!

The conference will cover practical AI in business, start-ups and funding, cybersecurity and careers, with speakers including Colm Long, a Derry native who served as VP of Global Operations at Facebook, and Martin Moran, who founded Salesforce’s international business as its first employee in Europe.

Also this week, Chris has been speaking with Ronan Berry of HRconsultants.ie all about hybrid office working, communications between employers and employees, and managing increasing numbers going back to working more time in the office.
