Highland Radio News can reveal that plans for what was being describes as a new Casino for Letterkenny have been blocked by An Bord Pleanala.
Letterkeny Town Council’s planning department had granted permission for the redevelopment of the ground floor of the Gleneany Hotel on the Pearse Road.
The plans included the development of an amusement arcade but when the issue was discussed at a Letterkenny Town Council meeting there was strong opposition from some who referred to it as a casino.
Grounds for refusal of planning permission included that plans were a piecemeal and non-comprehensive approach to development of the site and would set an undesirable precedent for substandard development.
One of those who opposed the development was Councillor Tom Crosson – he says it wasn’t a good fit for Letterkenny:
