Mixed results for Tyrone and Derry in League Finals

In the first game of the day at Croke Park,  Derry were crowned League Division II champions after a 1-18 to 0-15 win over Westmeath.
Brian McIver’s side scored 1-3 without reply in added time to seal a very impressive win and a national title for the Oak Leafers for the first time since 2008.
Derry finished both halves very strongly, hitting three points in a row at the end of the first 35 minutes to draw level at 0-10 to 0-10 at the break, before Emmet McGuckin made the difference at the very end, scoring 1-1 in added time to give his side the victory.
The Oak Leafers ended the day with 10 different players on the score sheet.
In the Division I decider, Tyrone lost to Dublin 0-18 to 0-17, as the Dubs claimed their first Football League title since 1993.
Dublin trailed with four minutes to go, but they scored three points in a row in the closing stages to win a very tight game.
The sides were level at the break and there was never more than a point in it at any stage of the second half until Dublin substitute Dean Rock knocked two points over into the Hill 16 end and Jack McCaffrey added another soon after to seal victory in a thrilling finale.
It was a cruel way for Tyrone to lose the game having defended superbly throughout and coped without their captain Stephen O’Neill, who went over on his ankle in the warm-up.
Tyrone manager Mickey Harte said afterwards that he expects the three-time All Star to be back in time for Tyrone’s Ulster Championship opener against Donegal on May 26.
