A senior Labour Party Minister says he has full confidence in the Health Minister.
Fianna Fail is calling on James Reilly to resign after it emerged the government’s plan to provide free GP care is facing delays.
Former Junior Health Minister Roisin Shortall is also calling for Minister Reilly to step down over the running of his Department.
However the Minister for Public Expenditure and Reform Brendan Howlin says his colleague James Reilly has his full support.
“Absolutely – I’m a former health minister myself, I understand how complex the administration of the health system are” he said.
“Particularly in a time of economic pressure when we’re bringing about substantial reforms that are being led by James Reilly now” he added.
