Mauritius newspaper editor convicted over Michaela McAreavey photos

A newspaper editor has been convicted of outrage to public and religious morality for publishing photographs of the body of Michaela McAreavey.
The 27-year-old daughter of Tyrone Senior Football team Manager Mickey Harte was murdered on her honeymoon in Mauritius in January 2011.
Editor of The Sunday Times in Mauritius, Imraan Hosany was arrested three days after dozens of pictures showing the crime scene, Michaela’s body and her injuries were published.
At the time, a spokesperson for the Harte and McAreavey families said that the photographs marked another low in the “treatment of John, the two families and the dignity of Michaela”.
The Deputy First Minister Martin McGuinness said the publication was an “outrageous abuse”.
Today Imraan Hosany was convicted of outrage to public and religious morality for publishing the photographs –  his lawyer has said that Hosany will appeal the court’s ruling.
