Report from Donegal Childcare Committe shows childminding costing €16,500 a year

The first ever review of childcare costs in Ireland finds more than half of lower earners with young children can’t afford to work.
The independent report finds Ireland has the second highest cost of childcare in the OECD, as a percentage of the average wage, and a person on that income would spend most of their salary on preschool costs.
It’s recommending that the government provide childcare support for the long-term unemployed and tax breaks for lower earning families.
