Donegal Deputy concerned over reported harrasement of garda whistleblower

Sinn Féin spokesperson on Justice, Pádraig MacLochlainn TD, has today expressed his concern over reports relating to the continued harassment against Garda whistleblower Sgt Maurice McCabe.
According to reports,the latest incident involved graffiti attached to a duty detail in Mullingar Garda Station, where Sgt McCabe is based in the traffic corps
Deputy MacLochlainn said:
“I am very concerned to hear reports that Sgt Maurice McCabe is still experiencing a campaign of harassment in his workplace due to his role as a whistleblower.
“It is entirely unacceptable that this should happen once, never mind on a continued basis and it is important to note that senior Garda management have a legal responsibility to protect whistleblowers and to thoroughly investigate these reports.
“If we are to develop a culture in the public and private sector that facilitates whistleblowers to come forward and shines a light on wrong doing, malpractice or corruption, then it needs to start now.”
