An Taisce to expand pilot initiative promoting walking to school

An Taisce has launched a campaign to encourage families to walk or cycle to school.
With the new school year now underway, the organisation’s Green Schools Education Officer in Donegal says in the case of families who travel in cars because they live too far away from school, then they could park some distance away from the school and walk the rest of the way.
Jimmy Mc Veigh says research shows that pupils who walk or cycle to school are more alert and perform better when they arrive, as well as reducing congestion and caring for the environment.
He says a pilot programme in the county is showing promise………..
