Donegal’s bid to win a third All-Ireland SFC title ended in disappointment as they lost 2-9 to 0-12.
Kerry got off to a dream start as Paul Geaney scored a goal after less than a minute and Kieran Donaghy added a free before Michael Murphy got Donegal’s first point from a free.
At half-time the sides were level, Kerry 1-3, Donegal 0-6.
Donegal briefly led in the second half, but Kerry took control in the centre of the park and really should have scored more as they squandered several decent chances.
Kieran Donaghy’s 52nd minute goal put Kerry four clear, and with defences on top, the Jim McGuinness managed side fell short.
Donegal battled hard late to stay in the hunt.
With three points between the sides heading into stoppage time, Colm McFadden had a late goal chance for Donegal but agonisingly his effort came off the post.
Disappointment then for Donegal, but joy for the Kingdom as they lifted the Sam Maguire cup for the 37th title.
