Donnelly re-appointed as Tyrone Minor manager

The long-running saga over the position of Tyrone Minor football team manager has  finally been resolved with the re-appointment of last year’s boss Mickey Donnelly.
Donnelly’s position was thrown into uncertainty in September when he failed to get the go-ahead to continue for the second season of a two-year term.
What was expected to be a rubber-stamping exercise at a county committee meeting turned into a major controversy, after a number of delegates opposed the re-appointment of the manager and his assistant Kieran McHugh.
Clarification was sought from CrokePark on whether a two-thirds majority was required to reverse the original decision to make the appointment on a two-year basis.
The outcome was that such that a majority was in fact needed, with the result that the minor management team was entitled to see out their agreed term.
The Red Hands are due to face this year’s beaten All-Ireland finalists, Donegal, in the first round of the 2015 Ulster Championship.
