Ballinderry players hit with one year suspensions

Derry’s CCC has come down hard on Ballinderry following the unsavoury scenes which marred the end of their controversial Derry SFC final loss to Slaughtneil.
As well as players Aaron Devlin, Michael Conlan and Gareth McKinless receiving one-year suspensions, the club will not be allowed to play home games for a year. In addition, Collie Devlin and James Conway have received one-match championship bans.
Slaughtneil’s Gerald Bradley scored a hugely contentious injury-time goal – Ballinderry claim the ball hadn’t fully crossed the goal-line – to deny the Shamrocks of a four-in-a-row of county titles last month.
After the final whistle, Ballinderry players and supporters vented their disgust at the decision to award the goal by attempting to stop referee Anthony Campbell and his umpires from leaving the Celtic Park pitch. It’s believed one of the umpires received a cut during the incident.
Ballinderry are expected to appeal the suspensions and the pitch closure.
