Letterkenny’s Philip Deignam makes Irish Cycling History

Philip DeignanDonegal’s Philip Deignan finished ninth overall in the Tour of Spain, which came to an end on Sunday with a flat stage to Madrid.
Deignan rolled across the line in 39th place on the final stage.
The Letterkenny rider Deignan exceeded all expectations in the race, taking the first Irish Grand Tour stage victory in seventeen years on Thursday.
In addition to that, he has taken the first top ten overall finish since Stephen Roche finished ninth in the general classification of the 1993 Giro d’Italia.
