Cricket – Strabane Win Section One Title

In the end Saturday’s showers stayed away long enough to allow Strabane to claim their second successive north west senior title and in the process confirm St Johnston’s swift return to Division 2. The Tyrone men shared the Division 1 championship with Limavady in 2009 but the fact that they have it to themselves this time will mean so much more after waiting 41 years for the old trophy to come back to the Park. St Johnston batted first and reached 131 for 7. The home side had little problems in catching that total and deservedly claimed a seven wicket victory to take the title. The defeat for St. Johnston has relegated Donegal’s only cricket club back to division two after just a solitary season in the top flight.
Highland’s Cricket correspondent Eamon Mc Laughlin spoke about Strabane’s win with Myles Gallagher on Sunday Sport.
