People are being urged to dial 999 and ask for the Coastguard if they suspect someone may be in difficulty on the water.
The call comes as RNLI statistics published today show that the Lough Swilly Lifeboat was the busiest in Donegal over the summer, with 14 call outs in June July and August.
The Arranmore Lifeboat had 9 call outs and the Bundoran lifeboat had 7.
RNLI Inspector Owen Medland says the figures reflect the fact that most summer call outs are to leisure craft, with stations such as Arranmore busier during the autumn and winter months when more missions involve trawlers and other commercial vessels in the open seas…….
